Police arrested a man on an attempted murder charge Friday after accusing him of stabbing another man multiple times following a “disagreement” in Hialeah.
According to Hialeah police, the stabbing happened at around 11:20 Wednesday morning at the Exxon gas station at 801 E. 25th St., just east of Hialeah Hospital.
Police said William Gregory Rodriguez, 36, of Lehigh Acres, had first tried to stab the victim with a kitchen knife three hours earlier following a fistfight after the unspecified “disagreement.” They said the victim was able to disarm him and got away.
Authorities said Rodriguez went looking for the victim, first pulling up on his scooter to a food store next to the Exxon, then finding him at the gas station.
An arrest report states that Rodriguez began running towards the victim and another man “without provocation.”
This time, police said he brought a tactical knife.
The victim ran away, but tripped, and Rodriguez “began stabbing him forcefully and repeatedly” in the torso and calf, the report states.
Authorities said Rodriguez took off on his scooter and the witness applied pressure to the victim’s wounds and called police.
Hialeah Fire Department medics took the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.
It’s not clear how authorities were able to capture Rodriguez.
He’s also facing a charge of fleeing and eluding after police said he led a Hialeah officer on a brief scooter chase after the officer tried to pull him over for running several stop signs on Sept. 8.
Jail records also show a charge of grand theft of a vehicle.
As of Monday morning, Rodriguez was being held without bond in the Metro West Detention Center.
