Officers took a man into custody after a police pursuit in Northwest Miami-Dade that ended in two crashes and a bailout.

Miami-Dade Police units started following a stolen white Ford F-150 truck after an officer activated their license plate reader in the area of Northwest Ninth Avenue and 83th Street, Wednesday afternoon.

Officers initially tried to stop the subject in the area of Northwest Fifth Court and 82nd Street, but when an officer walked up to him, the man backed his car up and crashed into the police car and a bystander’s parked vehicle, almost hitting the officer.

A pursuit ensued, causing the man to crash into a civilian’s Hyundai near Interstate-95 and Northwest 79th Street and a second officer’s car near Northwest 75th Street and 32nd Avenue.

“The driver of the vehicle here apparently crashed into a police vehicle or sideswiped a police vehicle,” said 7Skyforce reporter Ralph Rayburn.

Investigators said the subject bailed out near Northwest 36nd Avenue and 76th Street and ran down the street where officers apprehended him.

“Police is requesting that needs to be checked out, Northwest 76th Street and Northwest 36th Avenue,” a 911 operator said.

Cellphone video obtained exclusively by 7News captures the moment the man bailed out and began running away from police.

The man was wanted for an assault on an officer, officials said.

7News cameras captured the man on a stretcher. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital to get checked out.

The driver of the Hyundai was seen being checked out at the scene by paramedics with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

“[The Hyundai] has probably the most damage to it. That driver of that vehicle was treated here on the scene, we saw him get up and walk with fire rescue personnel and get in the back of a fire rescue truck. They’re gonna take him to the hospital,” said Rayburn.

Hours after the crash, the damaged Hyundai and the stolen truck were towed away.

As of Wednesday night, the subject remains in the hospital, but once he is discharged, he will face a judge and learn the charges he is facing.
