A man was killed by a Brightline train while walking on the tracks in Indian River County, deputies say.

The crash happened at around 10 p.m. Monday near Highlands Drive SE. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) says Wesley Allen Ducheneaux, 29, was walking on the train tracks heading south while the train, carrying 61 passengers, was headed north. At the time the train was traveling at 110 mph.

The engineer told deputies when he saw the man, he activated an emergency stop but the man was still struck. His body was found off the tracks.

There were no injuries to anyone on the train. Brightline sent another train to pick up the travelers so they could continue their trip.

The location was examined by deputies for three hours. The crash is still under investigation.
