A man was killed in an overnight crash on US-27 in Frostproof on Saturday, officials said.
The collision happened around 12:30 a.m., according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses reportedly saw the man, who was driving a silver Dodge van, leave a gas station and turn onto Charles Street before eventually turning onto US-27 South. The van crossed into the path of a semi-truck, which was going southbound on the highway.
The driver of the semi-truck was reportedly “unable to maneuver” out of the van’s path to avoid the crash.
Authorities said the driver of the van, a 68-year-old man from Bowling Green, died in the crash. The semi-truck driver’s condition is unknown at this time.
An investigation is ongoing.
