Man killed when car spins into palm tree on Southside Connector at Merrill Road: Florida Highway Patrol

A 44-year-old man died Thursday night in a crash on the Southside Connector entrance ramp from Merrill Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man was headed northbound on the Southside Connector entrance ramp to I-295, north of Merrill Road when he lost control on a curve, then overcorrected, sending the car into a counterclockwise spin.

The FHP report said the car spun northeast across the Southside Connector lanes, through the northbound entrance ramp of Merrill Road and then off the roadway until it slammed into a palm tree on the east grass shoulder.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, troopers said.
