Man killed while operating heavy machinery in LaBelle

A man is dead after working on a piece of heavy machinery for Phillips & Jordan Inc. in LaBelle on Tuesday morning, Hendry County deputies said.

Deputies said they received a call around 3:30 a.m. Initial investigations revealed the death appears to be accidental.

“It appears to be accidental. So our investigators are still looking into it. Obviously, the construction company has people that are coming to investigate as well,” said HCSO Captain S H.

OSHA is responding to the scene along with representatives of the equipment company.

HCSO said Phillips & Jordan Inc. will be issuing a statement later on Tuesday. It is unclear at this time if the victim was an employee of the company.

No further information has been provided at this time as HCSO said it is still too early in the investigation.
