Man killed, woman injured in double shooting at Southside hotel

A man was killed and a woman was injured just after midnight Friday in a double shooting at the Hometown Inn & Suites just off Philips Highway in the Southpoint area of Jacksonville, police said.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sgt. RR said police were called to the hotel on Mustang Road, about a block east of Philips Highway, because of reports that someone had been shot.

Officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

The woman was also found with gunshot wounds, but she was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition and cooperating with detectives, R said.

R said witnesses told police the shooter was a man possibly in his 20s-30s.
