TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two people are dead in what deputies say was a murder-suicide in downtown Tampa overnight.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2800 block of Cedaridge Drive just after 9 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of a woman who had gone missing.
Just after midnight, detectives found the woman, 28-year-old Waleska Gomez Barroeta, dead in a parked car outside the Heron apartment complex, located at 815 Water Street.
Officials said the suspect, 31-year-old Franklin Vegas Delgado, had called a relative and told them he killed his wife.
Vegas Delgado reportedly abandoned the parking lot, where his wife was found, and fled on foot. At 1:20 a.m., he was found with self-inflicted injuries at the Marriott Waterside Hotel, located at 505 Water Street. The hotel is located roughly half a mile away from where her body was found.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “This is an unimaginable loss and a painful reminder that violence is never the answer.”
