Man on motorcycle killed in Lakeland crash after running red light, police say

LAKELAND, Fla. — A 55-year-old man is dead after police say he ran a red light and crashed into a utility trailer Saturday evening in Lakeland.

At around 6:20 p.m., authorities arrived at East Memorial Boulevard after receiving a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a utility trailer attached to a truck, the Lakeland Police Department said in a news release.

Police say they found Oscar Rivera Jr. unresponsive and discovered that he was the driver of the motorcycle.

The police department, along with the Lakeland Fire Department and Polk County Fire Rescue, attempted to provide aid to help Rivera. However, he reportedly died due to his injuries a short time later after he was taken to Lakeland Regional Health.

East Memorial Boulevard was closed for about three hours as police conducted their investigation.
