Man pushing moped on dark Jacksonville Street struck, killed by car: JSO

A man in his 60s was killed early Wednesday morning after he was struck by a car while walking on a Jacksonville street.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the man was pushing a moped-on Garden Street, not far from the Dinsmore neighborhood, just before 1 a.m.

A driver who was heading eastbound on Garden Street didn’t see the man and struck him, JSO said.

The driver stopped, called 911 and remained at the scene, according to JSO. The pedestrian was later pronounced dead.

JSO said the stretch of Garden Street where the collision happened is dark and there are no sidewalks.

The death marks the 84th traffic fatality and the 22nd pedestrian death in Duval County this year, JSO said.
