Man riding bicycle killed in collision with SUV in Lely

A man died after he was hit by an SUV at U.S.-41 and Lely Resort Boulevard in Lely.

The 26-year-old Naples man was riding a bicycle when the crash happened around 4:03 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he was traveling east on the westbound bicycle lane against traffic.

The SUV was traveling in the right lane of U.S.-41 and the driver attempted to get into the right turn lane.

FHP said the front of the vehicle collided with the bicyclist. According to the report, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

No one in the SUV was injured.

Two lanes were blocked off following the crash but have opened back up.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash is under investigation.
