Man shot in Daytona Beach during altercation Sunday morning

The Daytona Beach Police Department is investigating after a man was shot during an altercation Sunday morning.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting around 7:45 a.m. Sunday on Madison Avenue in Daytona Beach. Officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot to the head. A nearby man approached the officers and identified himself as the person who called 911 and had shot the man.

The caller told police that the victim had attacked him outside a building in that area while the victim was behaving in an agitated manner. The caller also told police that he believed the victim to possibly be under the influence of an unknown substance. During a struggle, the caller’s firearm discharged and struck the victim.

The victim was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center and is being treated for his injuries. DBPD said there are no charges pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
