Marion County man killed in vehicle crash

A man has died following a car crash in Marion County Sunday morning.

According to officials, a 78-year-old man driving a white Hyundai Elantra attempted to turn left from Southeast 147th Street onto US Highway 301 just before 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

A 53-year-old man driving a white Ford Escape was traveling south down US Highway 301 when it hit the back of the Hyundai trying to turn left.

The Ford drove into the shoulder of the road and hit a tree causing it to topple over and fall onto the car, killing the driver.

The Hyundai’s driver refused transportation to a hospital and the driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.
