A Fort McCoy man was killed in a fatal accident on Saturday morning after his car collided with a pickup truck in Marion County. The accident took place less than 12 hours after another man from Fort McCoy was rear-ended and killed while riding his motorcycle.
The second fatal crash occurred on NE 160th Avenue Road, nearly half a mile south of the NE 180th Street intersection, at around 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, October 26.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver and sole occupant of the car involved in the accident – a 64-year-old man from Fort McCoy – sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that it is unknown if the Fort McCoy man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The two occupants of the pickup truck – a 58-year-old Lutz man (driver) and 82-year-old Tampa man (passenger) – were not wearing seatbelts, though the report stated that they were not injured.
Due to the two-vehicle collision, NE 160th Avenue Road was temporarily closed near the intersection of NE 180th Street on Saturday morning. Shortly after 10 a.m., the roadway reopened to traffic.
No further details were provided in the report regarding the cause of the accident, which remains under investigation.
