MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade deputies say a security guard at a condominium complex lost his cool on a senior who was filing a complaint against him, leading to his arrest on a felony charge Thursday.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened March 25 at the Promenade Condominium at Kendale Lakes, located at 14325 SW 88th St.
The MDSO report states that it all started after the victim, a 66-year-old man, “momentarily” parked in a handicapped parking spot in order to unload groceries.
Deputies said security guard Anniel Lorenzo, 34, came up to the man and the pair argued over permitless handicapped parking. Lorenzo then placed a parking violation sticker on the man’s car.
The report states that when the victim went to the main office to file a complaint, Lorenzo confronted him as he spoke with the condo association’s vice president.
Deputies said “the security guard approached him in an aggressive manner and proceeded to shove the victim (utilizing) his chest and hands, causing the victim to lose (his) balance, stumble backwards, (and) almost fall to the floor.”
“As a result, the victim grabbed a chair, and tossed it in anger in attempts to create distance between him and the security guard,“ the report states. ”As a result of the (victim’s) actions, the security guard grabbed (his) right arm, placing it behind (his) back and redirected (him) to the ground. While on the ground, the victim stated the security guard kneed his left rib cage.”
Authorities said the man went back to his unit and called the police and later sought medical care for bruises and abrasions.
Deputies said they identified Lorenzo as the suspect and went to his home in the 14900 block of Southwest 80th Street and arrested him Thursday on a charge of battery on a person 65 or older.
Authorities said he made a “self-serving statement.”
A Miami-Dade judge found probable cause Friday to charge Lorenzo, giving him a $1,500 bond.
As of Friday, he remained held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
