Miami-Dade firefighter injured while facing flames at building with storage units

A firefighter was hospitalized after suffering minor injuries while working to extinguish flames at a building with storage units on Saturday morning in Miami-Dade County.

Heavy smoke billowed from The Extra Space Storage along Northwest Second Avenue, near 176 Street, in Miami Gardens.

Firefighters first responded shortly before 10:10 a.m. and set up several hose lines. Over time, dispatch deployed about 40 units including ladder trucks to get to the roof to cut ventilation openings.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the units controlled the fire by 12:15 p.m. Firefighters were targeting hot spots.
