Police have arrested a Miami man accused of more than a dozen crimes against children.
Junior Del Villar Hernandez was booked into jail on Wednesday. The 39-year-old is accused of uploading 15 videos through his Gmail account depicting child sexual abuse, involving victims that include toddlers.
Del Villar Hernandez appeared before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Alberto Milian on Thursday morning. He was denied bond.
“I hereby find probable cause as to all 15 counts,” said Milian.
The people who live with Del Villar Hernandez said he disappeared two weeks ago and had no idea police were looking for him.
“He was quiet. He used to go to work; in his days off, he’d stay in his room,” said a housemate.
City of Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said the investigation into the crimes started two years ago, when the 15 files were uploaded.
“Our detectives from the Internet Crimes Against Children [unit] have been working since 2022, so you can imagine the arduous challenges, and through several subpoenas and court orders, they were able to narrow it down,” said Morales.
Detectives found the suspect at Barber Love, a barber shop in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood, where the owner said he would rent a chair to cut hair.
Once he was picked up, the disturbing nature of his crimes was revealed.
Del Villar Hernandez’s arrest report states detectives seized his cellphone and discovered the sexual abuse files uploaded to his Gmail account.
The arrest report further states the victims in the videos ranged in ages from 1 to 8 years old.
Police said the suspect was also messaging underage girls on Instagram.
“A lot of these perpetrators don’t just stay distributing, possessing and exchanging the material,” said Morales. “What we know at this time is that this individual was actively on the social networks trying to solicit individuals, underage girls.”
Investigators have not determined whether or not Del Villar Hernandez had a hand in producing these videos. They urge additional possible victims to come forward.
“That’s the danger of these pedophiles, these child predators that are going out there, so we encourage everyone, be careful with your children, be aware who they’re contacting and chatting [with] online or on any of the social networks,” said Morales.
Del Villar Hernandez is being held on an immigration hold.
