A fiery crash involving a motorcycle and a car left both vehicles nearly unrecognizable in southwest Miami-Dade on Friday evening.
The crash occurred near Southwest 152nd Street and 112th Avenue, sending thick black smoke into the air that could be seen from miles away. Witnesses reported hearing a loud impact, followed by flames erupting quickly.
“Others made a left turn and the motorcycle crashed into it, okay, and then it just exploded. The motorcycle exploded on fire. And there it was. The car was on fire, but the seats wouldn’t go out. That was the amazing thing. Tires popping. Hey, they got it,” one witness recounted.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Florida Highway Patrol, and Miami-Dade deputies responded to the crash. Firefighters worked for an extended period to extinguish the flames.
Felix Lopez was in a nearby fast food restaurant when the commotion at the intersection drew his attention.
“It’s pretty devastating the aftermath of what I saw,” he said. “I heard a noise and I saw the smoke when I came out the restaurant. When that motorcycle hit the (SUV), the gas tank in the back, they both caught fire.”
Witnesses at the scene told Local 10 News that everyone in the car was able to escape safely, but the motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital after suffering serious injuries.
The crash has caused a major traffic disruption, with Southwest 152nd Street closed in both directions near the scene.
