Motorcycle rider killed in crash in Columbia County

Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies say a deadly crash closed down roads for a few hours in Lake City Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Northwest Lake Jeffery and Nash Road around 7 a.m.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a pickup truck was headed north on Lake Jeffery Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Nash Road.

A motorcycle headed south on Lake Jeffery Road collided with the truck.

The biker, a 48-year-old man from White Springs, died at the scene. The truck driver, a 65-year-old man from Ft. Meade, was taken to a hospital in Lake City for treatment of minor injuries.

Both roads were blocked for more than an hour before reopening around 9 a.m.
