Motorcyclist killed in crash with garbage truck on State Road 54

A 51-year-old Lutz man died after his motorcycle collided with a garbage truck on State Road 54 in Pasco County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the garbage truck had been traveling west on State Road 54, and was attempting to turn left onto Monmouth Drive when it was struck by a motorcycle that was traveling in the opposite direction.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. The garbage truck driver, a 35-year-old man from Spring Hill, was not injured.

The crash closed the eastbound lanes of State Road 54, but they have since reopened.
