Motorcyclist killed in Fort Pierce crash that shut down U.S. 1

The Fort Pierce Police Department has revealed that a motorcyclist was killed in a deadly crash that shut down a busy stretch of U.S. 1 on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the police department, officers responded to U.S. Highway 1 and Avenue M in the city of Fort Pierce after receiving reports about a deadly crash that involved a motorcycle and a vehicle.

The investigation revealed that a woman was driving her sedan north on US 1 and attempted to turn on Avenue M when she suddenly collided with the motorcycle driver who was heading south.

The motorcyclist, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the driver of the sedan was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

Following the crash, US Highway 1 north and southbound lanes were closed but reopened at approximately 6:15 p.m.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
