Emergency crews responded to a devastating head-on collision in the Florida Keys on Saturday, leaving several people injured and three airlifted to a trauma center.
Local 10 News reported that authorities responded to the scene of the crash, which involved two vehicles, at Mile Marker 13.
The report also revealed that the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that multiple people were injured, and three of those victims were transported by Trauma Star to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Facebook images from the scene show the mangled wreckage of a dark-colored SUV and another car, prompting the severity of the impact. The images also showed fire rescue personnel, who reportedly worked diligently to assess the damage and tend to the injured before medical crews accompanied them to the hospital.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Meanwhile, the identities and conditions of the victims have not yet been released, as investigators continue to put together pieces of evidence to find an explanation.
