‘Murder on Fleming’: Polk County man killed in ‘targeted’ shooting, sheriff says

A Polk County man was killed in a shooting in unincorporated Lakeland Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

“We’ve had a murder on Fleming [Avenue] today,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

Judd said deputies were called to the scene at about 10 a.m. The 911 caller told authorities they heard multiple gunshots in the area and saw the body of Alfredo Alfaro-Astello, 32, lying in the front yard of a home.

According to the sheriff, detectives interviewed multiple witnesses who said they saw a man named Clinton Robinson Jr. walking away from the fence of the home before the gunshots.

“They also heard our suspect make the statement, ‘how do you like me now?’” Judd said. “So at the end of the day, we know that the suspect and the victim have argued before on this street. What all the arguments that occurred are about is still under investigation, but apparently, for whatever reason, it came to a head with CJ shooting the victim.”

The sheriff said the victim appeared to have at least four gunshot wounds. Investigators said both Alfaro-Astello and Robinson were neighbors.

“Obviously, however many gunshot wounds there are, they were fatal because he died where he fell,” Judd said.

Robinson has been detained by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, as of this report. The exact charges he faces have not yet been released, but Judd said the murder appeared to be “a targeted event.”

If you have any information related to the murder, call the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 863-298-6200 or Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-888-400-TIPS.
