Naples man dies in early morning coach bus crash on I-75 in Lee County

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. —

A man died early Monday when the bus he was driving veered off the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Lee County, crossed the median, and crashed into trees on the opposite side of the highway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened near mile marker 116 around 4:20 a.m. when the Van Hool coach bus, heading north, left the roadway, hit a cable barrier, continued across the southbound lanes, and struck several trees on the right shoulder.

The 64-year-old driver from Naples was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

No other injuries were reported, and the crash remains under investigation.
