Nassau County women dies after car flips over, crashes into trees and power pole

A 59-year-old woman from Fernandina Beach died on Saturday afternoon after her car left the road, flipped over, and crashed into multiple trees and a power pole, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The agency said the crash happened on Heckscher Drive, about one mile east of Sisters Creek, around 1 p.m. when the woman was heading east on the roadway at a “high rate of speed.”

As she was navigating a left curve in the roadway, her vehicle left the road and crashed into “multiple palm trees and a JEA power pole.”

Medical personnel said she died at the scene.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue, around 1:10 p.m., said they were at the scene and delays were to be expected. The roadway has since been cleared.
