Ocala man accused of battering Amazon delivery driver

An Ocala man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly battered an Amazon driver shortly after a package was delivered at his home.

On Sunday, November 10, at around 4:25 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a home located on NW Gainesville Road in Ocala in reference to an incident involving “burglary with a battery,” according to the arrest report.

Upon arrival at the residence, the deputy made contact with a man, identified as 37-year-old Dana Marvin Hilliker, who advised that he was riding his motorcycle around his property when a white van approached him. The male driver of the van, identified in the report as the victim, was wearing an Amazon vest, and Hilliker advised that he yelled at the victim to “slow down.”

Hilliker told the deputy that the victim continued driving to the rear of the property to deliver a package. After the delivery was made, the van began heading back toward NW Gainesville Road when Hilliker stood in front of the vehicle and signaled with his arms for it to stop, according to the report.

When the van continued moving forward, Hilliker claimed that he “grabbed onto the driver’s side mirror and window area” of the van to avoid being “ran over.” He further claimed that the victim struck him multiple times in the face and arms, and the report stated that he held onto the vehicle until it came to a rolling stop near the edge of the tree line.

Hilliker advised that once the van stopped, he “jumped off” and ran back to his home as the vehicle drove away.

While at the incident location, the deputy spoke with Hilliker’s wife who advised that she had taken several photos of the incident. The deputy noted in the report that two of these photos showed Hilliker “hunched over” the driver’s side window of the van, and his arms were “clearly inside the vehicle and not holding onto the mirror as previously stated.”

The deputy next made contact with the victim at another location. The victim stated that Hilliker had yelled at him to “slow down,” and he continued driving to the property to deliver a package. The report stated that after the delivery was completed, Hilliker “jumped in front of the vehicle” as it drove towards the property’s exit.

The victim stated that he slammed on his brakes, though the van slid forward as it approached Hilliker. According to the report, Hilliker then “jumped onto the vehicle,” “held onto the door,” and “grabbed onto (the victim’s) shirt,” “scratch(ing) at (his) arms and legs.”

The victim admitted to punching Hilliker approximately five times with his right fist in an attempt to remove him from the vehicle. When Hilliker let go of the vehicle, the victim advised that he drove to a secondary location to wait for law enforcement.

The deputy mentioned in the report that the victim had several scratches on his legs and knuckles that were “consistent with (his) statement.”

Hilliker was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail. He was released the following day after posting a $10,000 bond, and he is being charged with burglary with assault or battery.

On Tuesday, December 10, Hilliker is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
