Ocala man accused of having sex with 15-year-old girl he met on Facebook

A 27-year-old Ocala man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly had sex and smoked marijuana with a 15-year-old girl he met on Facebook.

On Sunday, July 28, a woman contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and reported that her 15-year-old granddaughter was missing. The woman advised that her granddaughter had left the residence several times during the month, and that she had “pieced together” that her granddaughter was in a relationship with a man who was later identified as 27-year-old Jeremy Philip Schinse, according to the arrest report.

An MCSO detective noted in the report that an iPhone belonging to the 15-year-old girl/victim had been tracked via the “Find My iPhone” app to a home located in the 8900 block of SE 87th Terrace in Ocala. In addition, the grandmother showed the detective photos of a vehicle that the victim had been observed entering.

The detective conducted a search of the vehicle’s tag number, which confirmed that the vehicle was registered to Schinse. The address registered with Schinse also matched the address where the victim’s iPhone had been tracked to.

The victim soon returned to her grandmother’s residence and allegedly confirmed that she had been with Schinse.

On Monday, August 12, an interview with the victim was conducted at Kimberly’s Center for Child Protection. During that interview, she stated that she had dated Schinse for around a month, and she claimed that he “took her places,” “bought her things,” and “respected her,” according to the report.

The victim advised that she initially met Schinse on Facebook Messenger after he added her as a friend. They began messaging each other, and she told investigators that she told Schinse that she was 15 years old. The report stated that after talking for around a week or two on Messenger, they decided to meet in person.

During the interview, the victim advised that she had sexual intercourse with Schinse a total of three times in his bedroom, and she also described smoking “weed” with him on several occasions. She further stated that they both kept quiet about their relationship due to his age, according to the report.

The MCSO detective made contact with Schinse at his residence. After being read his Miranda rights, Schinse admitted to meeting up with the victim and smoking marijuana with her. The report stated that he denied having sex with the victim, claiming that they “kissed and cuddled together.”

During the post-Miranda interview, Schinse claimed that the victim had told him that she was “either 17, 18, or 19 years old.”

Schinse was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail on August 12. Five days later, he was released from the jail after posting a $45,000 bond. He is being charged with three counts of lewd or lascivious battery on a minor and three counts of delivery of marijuana to a minor.

A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, according to jail records.
