An Ocala man has been arrested for aggravated battery after he allegedly attacked one of his girlfriend’s friends with a kitchen knife during an argument over how he treats his girlfriend.
On Monday, October 13, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to an Ocala residence in reference to a stabbing incident that had just occurred. Upon arrival, the deputy was informed that the female victim in this case was being treated by paramedics, according to the arrest report.
The victim met with the deputy and stated that her friend’s boyfriend, identified in the report as 23-year-old DJL, had attacked her with a knife inside the home. She stated that the altercation started when she began arguing with L over how he treats his girlfriend.
According to the victim’s statement, L briefly exited the home during the argument to “call the police.” While he was outside, he became “upset” with the victim because she was not leaving the residence, and he allegedly started running towards her.
In response, the victim stated that she locked one of the doors to the home and entered the laundry room. Moments later, L stepped into the laundry room while wielding a knife, and he allegedly pinned her against the wall between the washing machine and dryer, according to the report.
The victim further alleged that L “sliced” her arms and stomach with the knife. The report stated that in response, the victim struck L in the face before taking the knife and hiding it in a kitchen drawer.
The deputy mentioned in the report that two “fresh minor lacerations” were visible on the victim’s left arm. She also had sustained small cuts on her right arm and stomach.
During an interview, L told the deputy that he was upset with his girlfriend over “miscommunications that occurred throughout the day.” He then became upset at the victim because she was “at the home.”
L claimed that the victim “ran towards him” inside of the home, which made him fear for his safety. He claimed that he “placed his hand out in front of him and accidentally cut the victim with the knife,” according to the report.
After being read his Miranda rights, L claimed that the incident was “non-intentional,” and he claimed that he was “in fear for his life.” In the report, the deputy mentioned that L later contradicted himself by stating that he was “unaware the victim sustained any injuries from the incident.”
The deputy located the knife in question inside the kitchen and noted that it was approximately eight inches long.
L’s girlfriend spoke with the deputy and corroborated the victim’s statement, adding that L appeared to be the “aggressor,” according to the report.
L was placed under arrest and booked into Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Jail records show that L is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18.
