One dead, five injured in overnight shooting in Boynton Beach

Police say a man opened fire during an altercation in Boynton Beach early Sunday morning shooting six, killing one, and critically injuring another.

Boynton Beach Police (BBPD) responded to multiple reports of a shooting around 1:40 a.m. Sunday near the 500 block of NE 2nd Street.

That’s where police say they found five people shot.

HH lives nearby and said she has heard of incidences happening in the area where the shooting took place.

“When he drives people that are in that neighborhood all of them tell him that it’s not a safe neighborhood,” H said. “So I’m not surprised.”

Five victims were taken to the hospital, where one victim, 31-year-old D W of Fort Lauderdale, later died.

BBPD said a sixth victim who self transported himself to an emergency center, was later located.

M also lives nearby and said the news is alarming.

“So it’s scary because I like live around here and I mostly come to this park every weekend,” M said. “It’s scary to know because like six people were shot around this area.”

One victim is in critical condition, and four victims are in stable condition, according to a statement by BBPD.

The department took to Facebook to say this appears to be an isolated incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Boynton Beach Police Department at 561-732-8116.
