One killed in late Wednesday crash

One man is dead this morning after a late-night crash on US-41.

It happened where the highway meets 66th Ave.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old from Bradenton was behind the wheel of an SUV just after 10:30 last night with a 17-year-old in the passenger seat. They were heading north on the highway when a 62-year-old man walking his bicycle tried crossing the street in front of them.

That’s when the crash happened. Troopers say the 18-year-old driver of the SUV got out to investigate, but then fled.

The 18-year-old later came back to the scene of the crime, and law enforcement arrested him. The incident remains under investigation.
