Crash shutdown eastbound lanes of Colonial Blvd. Saturday night
FORT MYERS, Fla. —
One man is dead after being hit and killed by a car Saturday night in Fort Myers.
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near the 7-Eleven near Colonial Boulevard and Deleon Street.
Fort Myers police said the driver remained on the scene.
Eastbound lanes of Colonial Blvd. were still closed as of 9:30 p.m. while investigators were on scene.
“We don’t have an I.D. on him yet, so we’re trying to identify who he is. So we’re waiting to identify him to find out if he (had) any prior trespass warning from the 7-Eleven or not. I believe he was just here, causing an issue and they wanted him [out] and that’s when they called us. So on the way over here, he decided to leave and cross the traffic unfortunately he was struck by a vehicle,” said Sergeant Rami Mousa from the Fort Myers Police Department.
NBC2 crews spoke to the manager of the 7-Eleven and said the man appeared to be under the influence, it’s unclear if he was though according to Fort Myers Police.
The Eastbound Lanes were cleared just after 11 p.m. on Saturday.
