Pants-less drunk driver from Mexico hits concrete pole outside gas station

A Wildwood man was arrested for DUI when officers found him sitting outside 7-Eleven with no pants on after hitting a concrete pole.

Officers responded to 7-Eleven, located at 2058 U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Fruitland Park, regarding a suspicious incident around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Upon arrival, an officer approached the driver and sole occupant of a blue Ford passenger car, later identified as 24-year-old B T-M, who was sitting in the driver’s seat with no pants on. The car appeared to have struck a concrete pole in front of the gas station. The officer noticed a pair of wet pants on the passenger seat along with two open beer cans, the report said.

T-M was asked for his driver’s license, to which he handed over a Mexican ID. A check of his driver’s history revealed he had never been issued a driver’s license, the report said.

The officers then asked T-M to get out of the vehicle and sit on the curb nearby. He had blood shot eyes and swayed while standing as he did so, the report said.

Due to a language barrier, an officer with the Lady Lake Police Department responded for translation. The officer asked how much T-M had to drink, and he admitted to drinking but could not remember how much. He advised that he went to a party in Mascotte and went to 7-Eleven to get more alcohol before going back home. He did not remember hitting any pole, the report said.

T-M was asked to participate in field sobriety exercises, but he did not wish to. He also refused to answer any questions after being read his rights. However, he later provided breath samples of 0.256g/210L and 0.260g/210L, the report said.

The native of Mexico was arrested on charges of DUI and no driver’s license (never had one). He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,500 bond.
