PBSO deputy’s gun accidentally discharges in restroom; bystander struck while in stall

A deputy’s gun went off while at the iThink Amphitheater in West Palm Beach on Tuesday, with a fragment hitting a woman, according to the agency.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) said one of its deputies went to the restroom at the amphitheater and when she removed her duty belt, her gun hit the ground and went off.

PBSO said a woman a few stalls down was struck with a fragment but did not need any medical attention.

No further details were provided by the sheriff’s office.

Exactly a year ago, in Indian River County, the sheriff’s office had a department-wide weapon swap after a deputy was injured when his handgun accidentally discharged.
