The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has located the truck and suspected driver in a hit-and-run last month that sent a West Palm Beach man to a trauma unit.
J D says he is grateful that the investigation into the crash that sent his brother, A D, into critical trauma care has finally moved forward.
“I feel as though you all bringing light to this story that really lit a fire under some people and really got the ball rolling,” said J D.
J D contacted WPBF 25 News investigative reporter T P last week, frustrated that he could not get any information about the investigation.
On Dec. 30, a pickup truck slammed into 64-year-old A D as he started to cross Cresthaven Boulevard with a friend, shattering his pelvis and causing numerous internal injuries.
The driver of the truck took off as A D was rushed to a trauma center, fighting for his life.
J D was frustrated that 11 days after the crash, the sheriff’s office had not put out a news release or retrieved surveillance video from nearby stores, but now that’s happened.
“They have the truck impounded, and they have a person of interest. They ran DNA on the truck — they submitted it to get a positive match to my brother,” said J D, who said he was briefed Monday morning by the lead detective.
According to the sheriff’s office report, the truck is a 2018 Dodge Ram belonging to Paul Mumford, whose listed address is less than a mile from the crash scene.
J D said he had a rush of emotion when the detective called him Monday with the news.
“I want to thank those store owners that did have surveillance cameras out there able to show where the truck entered the plaza and when it disappeared. So that’s how he was able to track that person down,” said J D.
He came right to the hospital to tell his brother, who has two more surgeries scheduled for Tuesday.
“It is a long road ahead, but I thank God he is here to travel that road,” said J D.
The sheriff’s office confirms it has impounded the truck and is actively investigating the crash.
WPBF 25 News’ Parker called Mumford asking for comment but has not heard back.
