Pedestrian killed by car in Polk County; deputies investigating

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation Wednesday afternoon after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of US-17 and Bill Bryan Road, north of Bowling Green, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The northbound lanes of US-17 were shut down due to the crash and remained closed as of 7 p.m. Wednesday.
