Pedestrian killed in crash near Lakeland

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a work truck Wednesday morning east of Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Polk County deputies and firefighters were dispatched around 10 a.m. to U.S. 92 at Reynolds Road, the sheriff’s office said on social media.

Eastbound lanes of U.S. 92 between Fish Hatchery and Reynolds roads were closed at the time of this report. Drivers were urged to avoid the area.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the fatal crash.
