A pedestrian was killed after two vehicles struck them on Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
At 9:10 p.m., troopers responded to New Market Road and Escambia Street in Immokalee.
According to officials, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the travel lanes of New Market Road, stepping in front of a 41-year-old man, traveling westbound in a van on that road.
After the collision, a 70-year-old man in a sedan traveling eastbound on New Market Road also struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the van initially fled the scene but later returned. FHP said their vehicle was impounded.
FHP is still working to positively identify the pedestrian.
