A pedestrian was fatally struck by an SUV while walking across a road early Sunday in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:48 a.m. along westbound State Road 44, approaching Lakeview Drive, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 32-year-old Eustis man — was walking north across the westbound travel lane of S.R. 44 when he was struck by the front of a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan. The man was not in a marked crosswalk and had entered the SUV’s direct path, the report states.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene while the SUV’s driver — a 43-year-old DeLand woman — was not injured in the crash and remained on scene, troopers said.
FHP is still investigating.
