Person dead after being shot at Naples shopping plaza

NAPLES, Fla. —

One person is dead after a shooting at a Naples shopping plaza Sunday morning.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened just after 10 a.m. in the 12000 block of Tamiami Trail East.

CCSO said one person is in custody and detectives said the people involved knew one another.

NBC2 spoke to several shoppers around the plaza on Sunday, who were shocked to hear about a man being killed in the parking lot.

“Hearing about a shooting here in Naples, it’s kind of frightening, honestly, because this is such a quiet town, almost nothing happens,” said Alexander Contreras, a Naples resident.

“I feel bad for the family, people that are close to them and hopefully this person will get arrested,” said Annamaria Fragris.

The father of the victim was at the scene Sunday but didn’t want to go on camera. He said that his son was shot in the head and chest area.

Crime scene tape surrounded the parking lot in front of the shopping plaza. NBC2 crews saw deputies and investigators remove the tape at around 6 p.m. after seeing two Camaros get towed away.

The sheriff’s office said more information will be released as it becomes available.
NBC2 is working to learn more about the incident.
