A driver is dead after his vehicle crashed into another car and burst into flames in Pasco County early Saturday morning.

At 3:05 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said a 23-year-old Port Richey man was speeding down westbound SR-54 in the Trinity area.

Just east of Starkey Boulevard, the man lost control of his Corvette while taking a curve and traveled across the median.

The driver then struck another vehicle, driven by a 43-year-old Hudson man heading eastbound on SR-54. That driver collided with the driver’s side of the Corvette.

FHP said that’s when the Corvette burst into flames.

The driver of the Corvette died at the scene of the crash, while the other driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
