Wednesday night fire draws heavy response on Pine Island
Pine Island Matlacha Fire District confirms to FOX 4 that one person died in a house fire on Wednesday night that drew an extensive response of firefighters.
The call came just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday for a house fire on Harry Street, near Stringfellow Road.
Firefighters say they found the person inside in pitch black smoke. Investigators, on scene, reported responders took a total of three people away for treatment. Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Pine Island Matlacha firefighters said the one person inside of the home died.
The fire also injured one firefighter, according to investigators, who called that a minor injury. Investigators say the high wind on Wednesday was not a factor, pointing to a nearby building keeping the impact of the wind subdued.
