Pinellas deputies shoot woman fleeing traffic stop, waving gun

An investigation is underway after seven Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a shooting.

The deputy-involved shooting happened near 20254 Gulf Boulevard in Indian Shores, deputies said.

Around 1:29 a.m., deputies stopped a car at 113 Street North and Park Boulevard in regards to the vehicle running a red light.

The suspect, MDF , 65, spoke with the deputy telling him the CIA was after her before driving away, according to Chief AH.

After driving away, deputies tried to use stop sticks, but the vehicle continued westbound onto the beach where it was stopped again by Indian Shores Police Department.

Chief H said during the second traffic stop, DF began waving a gun before ISPD tried “using less lethal” bean bags and pepper balls to get her out of the vehicle.

After attempting to get DF out of the vehicle, she rammed one of the police vehicles and headed northbound on Gulf Boulevard.

PCSO pit maneuvered the vehicle to try and stop her, but she continued and rammed into several other law enforcement vehicles, Chief H said.

Deputies then used their weapons and DF was hit several times.

DF was taken to the hospital where she is in critical condition.

Seven deputies were involved in the shooting. One deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The following deputies have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation:

  • Lt. TM
  • K9 Corporal JF
  • Corporal BH
  • Corporal TR
  • Deputy ML
  • Deputy KK
  • Deputy AO

The Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force is taking over the investigation.

Gulf Boulevard will be closed between the Walsingham Bridge and 197 Avenue East during the investigation.
