Confession lands West Palm Beach hit-and-run suspect behind bars after police recognized his car during a DUI stop.
Police say they caught the suspect after canvassing the area and finding EV VF allegedly drunk and asleep on the shoulder in a black 2003 Ford Expedition that matched the description of the vehicle involved in a November hit-and-run.
At 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2024, West Palm Beach Police (WPBPD) said 27-year-old RH-V of Riviera Beach was killed in a hit-and-run on Broadway at 40th Street after being struck by V and another car while crossing the street.
According to previous coverage, after he was hit, V took off, while the second stayed behind at the scene.
While the DUI was being investigated, officers say a detective examined the vehicle, confirming it matched the SUV captured on CCTV footage.
After being questioned about where he was on Nov. 16, police say F confessed.
“Ok, I’m going to confess. I’m going to talk,” F told investigators. “I hit somebody last night, but, but it wasn’t it wasn’t my fault, I swear to God.”
The criminal probable cause affidavit notes that at no time before his confession did investigators mention a crash occurring.
Due to his Mirandized confession, police found probable cause to book F on a felony county of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.
