A 25-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he allegedly attempted to stab a police officer in Opa-locka, records show.
According to an arrest report, the police officer was patrolling Northwest 135 Street near 27 Avenue when he saw JR fighting with men who were in a car.
The police officer reported R, 25, said the men had stolen his car, but he was so intoxicated and aggressive that he quickly became the criminal suspect.
R “began to swing at me, striking me on the arm … he picked up a 14-inch metal strip from the ground and held it at me in an overhand position as if he was going to stab me,” the police officer wrote in his report.
R continued to be aggressive and used racial slurs after backup and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel arrived, according to police.
Records show police officers arrested R and correctional officers booked him on Tuesday morning at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
R is facing charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with violence, and disorderly conduct.
