Police make arrest in case of woman’s burned body found in Hollywood alley

Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the case of a woman’s burned body found in a Hollywood alley in mid-August.

Marquis Denmark, 41, of West Park, is facing charges of abuse of a dead human body and failing to report a death to the medical examiner in connection with the Aug. 12 discovery in the area of North 21st Avenue and Fillmore Street. Authorities also recovered a vehicle that day.

According to an arrest report, Hallandale Beach police took Denmark into custody on Wednesday after they saw him at OB Johnson Park, located at 1000 NW Eighth Ave., after hours. During that encounter, an officer discovered he had outstanding warrants in the Hollywood case, along with ecstasy pills in his pocket, it states.

The woman has not yet been identified and is listed in an Oct. 7 arrest warrant as a Jane Doe. The brief document does not outline any details about the investigation, including how police tied Denmark to the gruesome find.

As of Thursday afternoon, Denmark had not been directly implicated in the woman’s death and authorities haven’t yet said whether they suspect he knew the woman.

He was being held in the Broward Main Jail on a $26,000 bond, online records show.
