One person is dead after a driver hit a pedestrian along I-75 in Collier County on Tuesday.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene in the northbound lanes shortly after 11 a.m.
According to reports, the pedestrian was working for a private company and laying sod on the northbound inside shoulder of I-75.
FHP said the driver, Darian Camacho of Miami, stated he fell asleep and drifted onto the shoulder.
According to FHP, Camacho collided with multiple cable barrier support beams as it partially slid under the cable barrier.
Camacho then collided with a construction sign which became lodged in the front of the vehicle. According to troopers, the vehicle then struck a 39-year-old Hispanic man.
The man was pronounced dead and a second pedestrian suffered a minor injury after being hit by debris from the crash.
Camacho, 37, was arrested for driving without a license causing death and attaching a license plate not assigned to a vehicle. He was booked into the Collier County Jail.
