Polk City man dies after suffering medical emergency, crashing into median barrier

A 76-year-old Polk City man died Thursday afternoon after officials said he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his pickup truck.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 as the man was traveling west on State Route 400 near the 47 mileposts, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.

After the man lost control of his Toyota Tundra, the truck traveled into the center median and struck a cable barrier, officials said.

The driver was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. The FHP did not state what type of medical emergency the man experienced.
