Stephen Gilbert posted on X that his “goal for this week is to find the nearest abortion clinic and burn it to the ground.”
The nearest clinic is a Planned Parenthood in Port Saint Lucie, where a security employee was made aware of the post and notified the FBI and other Planned Parenthood clinics across the state.
“The FBI contacted our targeted violence unit as part of our special investigations unit,” said Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, of Port Saint Lucie Police. “The FBI had already potentially identified the suspect as Stephen Gilbert, a resident of Port Saint Lucie. Our investigators, along with the FBI, were able to track him down in the City.”
Gilbert’s roommates told police he makes terrorism threats often, according to the arresting documents.
Gilbert has previous convictions of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting a deadly missile, assault on a first responder, indecent exposure and possession of cocaine.
“Based on his criminal history and his comments, that’s why we made the arrest,” Mesiti said. “We believe that he could be a potential danger, yes.”
He is charged with one felony count of intimidation-written sent threat to kill or injure.
