Victims of Sexual Discrimination

What is Sex Discrimination?

The essence of sex discrimination is unequal treatment based on sex. The treatment must be not only different, but also uneven, and therefore unfair.

Sex discrimination involves different treatment that negatively affects the terms or conditions of a person’s life based on their sex, gender, or affiliation with an organization or group associated with a particular sex.

Discrimination against an individual because of gender identity, including transgender status, or because of sexual orientation is also considered sexual discrimination. Sex discrimination includes treating a person differently based on sex stereotypes or because he/she does not conform to traditional notions of femininity or masculinity.

Discrimination is Against the law when it occurs in an area of public life such as clubs, schools, shops, or in the workplace.

Sex discrimination, although predominantly an issue for women, can sometimes be directed towards men as well. Both the victim and the harasser can be either a woman or a man, and the victim and harasser can be the same sex.
