Punta Gorda man dies after motorcycle, SUV collide in Charlotte County

A 57-year-old Punta Gorda man was killed in a motorcycle crash that happened along State Road 776 (S McCall Road) and David Boulevard.

The crash happened Wednesday morning at approximately 6:47 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a motorcycle east on State Road 776 and approaching David Blvd. Meanwhile, an SUV was heading north on David Blvd, coming up on State Road 776.

Troopers said the SUV driver tried to make a left turn onto State Road 776 and entered the motorcycle’s path.

The front of the motorcycle then collided with the SUV. According to FHP, the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the report, the SUV driver was not injured in the crash.

FHP said the crash remains under investigation.
